In The Studio. Day.9 ..

Hi, gang! Well, we’ve just finished our 9th day of recording, and I think we did pretty darn good. All instrumental tracking is done! We just need to put vocals on a couple of songs, and then we can get down to mixing, mastering and releasing.

To be honest, creating an album from scratch in only 9 days was a Herculean task that we set for ourselves. We feel really proud of what we’ve created .. the songs are totally something else!

I’d like to thank on behalf of the rest of the band, the (almost) 400 people who’ve been following my studio-ramblings. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading the studio blog, and rest assured I’ll be updating you with how the mixing etc’s coming on.

Signing off, now!

Thanks, everyone ..

In The Studio. Day.8 ..

Hi, amigos! We spent 9/10ths of the day doing vocal tracking, with yours truly engineering JK’s vocal performances. The early part of the day though, was spent adding acoustic guitar to some songs. We’re very pleased to say that having a very tight deadline to work-to (1 x album / 9 x days, with nary a break in those 15 hour days) has made us hone the songs to the nth degree and we really think you’re gonna love what we’ve done with ‘em. By the way, debuting on this album are several songs that we’ve never, ever played live; and we think you’re gonna be knocked out by ‘em too.

Time to sign off, big day tomorrow (with a very early start) as we finish vocal tracking. After that, we’re going to mix and master the songs, workout which songs will be placed exactly where on the album and design the artwork.

We’re in a very lucky position in being able to utilise our own studio for the recordings, but to bring it to our luverly fans, well .. that is literally where you come in (more details about that exactly, will be forthcoming soon) ;)

Catch you on the Otherside, folks ..

In The Studio. Day.7 ..

Good evening, y’all! We got down ‘n’ dirty with the Synth ‘n’ Kaos Pad today! All the dirty, phat, filthy sounds that make up Otherside are now all present and correct. Day.8 is earmarked for acoustic guitar and vocals (Day.9 will be for incidentals and “thinking out-of-the box”).

See you tomorrow for Day.8, amigos!

In The Studio. Day.6 ..

Good evening, wunderkinds! The heats now off me (all of my guitar parts are now done), so now it’s Jamies turn in the spotlight. At the moment, Al, Dave and me are in the control room watching Jamie turn-in a rip-roaring guitar-take on ‘Let It Go’. The album is sounding mighty fine indeed!!we definitely have an air of ‘Cor, blimey’ around these sessions .. “and” it’s GREAT fun! See you for Day.7 tomorrow!

In The Studio. Day.5 ..

Hi, folks! A very tired Ken writing this ;) Al finished his bass tracking this morning, and I’ve managed to record guitar tracking for all but 2 songs today. We intend to make a very early start tomorrow for Day.6 .. finish off my guitar tracking for those 2, and then Jamie can start laying down his vocal, synth and guitar tracks. Meanwhile, a good, hot shower awaits me while I have Dave picking me up in a very short 7 hours time.

Catch you for Day.6 on the Otherside tomorrow, dude and dude-ettes ..

In The Studio. Day.4 ..

A busy fourth day comes to a close for us. Today, we put down all the bass tracks, bar ‘Out Of Mind’, ‘Beg For More’ and ‘About A Word’. To say we’re cream-crackered, is an understatement; as we’ve worked our little cotton socks off to bring you an album which we think you will really like (at least, we hope you will) ;) Tomorrow will see Al finishing off bass for the remaining tracks and me adding guitar, although I doubt that task will be completed by tomorrow’s end. It’s tight, but I think we’re on schedule.

See you tomorrow for Day.5!

In The Studio Day.3 ..

Hi y’all. Just a quick “half day” live blog from yours truly. So far today, we’ve completed drums on ‘Far Away’ and most of ‘Beg For More’ (*maybe* an overdub to finish it) and Dave’s just started tracking for ‘Let It Go’. Al successfully finished tracking bass for both ‘Massive’ and ‘I’ll Burn With You’ last night. Total star! I have a feeling we’re going to try and complete tracking drums for as many songs as we can today. Hopefully, we’ll either have them all completed today, or “definitely” by tomorrow .. then we can major on bass tracking.

Catch you laters,
Ken

In The Studio: Day.2 ..

Nice, early start (fueled by copious amounts of coffee and double-egg, beans on toast)! Laid down Master drum tracks for ‘I’ll Burn For You’ and ‘Massive’ (‘Massive’ being a particular P.I.A, as it slides up to 245bpm for the songs’ coda). Al also laid down some magnificent bass for ‘Massive’, and he’ll probably nail ‘I’ll Burn For You’ by nights’ end as well.

A bit of a short blog for us today, as Dave had to pull himself away from the sessions in order to play a pre-booked gig, and as it’s not quite my time for guitar-overlaying yet .. I’ve left the sessions to come home early, and leave everything in the very capable hands of Jamie and Al :)

See you tomorrow for Day.3!

In The Studio: Day.1 ..

Hi! First day of recording for the new album. Today was a day of getting the drums to sound “just right”: eliminating squeeking pedals and damping down drum-heads. We also worked-out the BPM for all the songs and laid down guide tracks (dummy vox, synth and guitar licks) for Dave to lay down proper drum tracks tomorrow. All-in-all, a very productive day, but tomorrow is where the “real” work begins.

Much love,
Ken
